About America Two Fifty

Why this project exists

America Two Fifty was created to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States by exploring the nation's history through documentary storytelling, historic artwork, primary documents, and original films.

Rather than celebrating a single narrative, the project examines the people, ideas, conflicts, and decisions that shaped the American experiment—and continue to shape it today.

History is neither simple nor finished. The questions first confronted during the Revolution remain part of American life: liberty and equality, power and representation, unity and division, citizenship and self-government.

America Two Fifty seeks to present those stories with historical rigor, visual richness, and respect for differing perspectives.

Our approach

This project is guided by several principles:

• History should be grounded in evidence.

• Primary sources matter.

• Complex subjects deserve context rather than slogans.

• Different viewpoints should be understood before they are judged.

• The American story belongs to all Americans.

Looking ahead

The site will continue to expand with new historical chapters, documentary films, educational resources, and voices that illuminate the nation's past while encouraging thoughtful conversation about its future.
